Digivice -25th Color Evolution-

Overview

Charging and Other Physical Features

  • USB-C Port: Used for recharging the device. For best results, use a USB-C to USB-A cable, avoiding any USB-C PD cables. Any standard 5v charging brick should work fine. For best longevity, try not to let the battery drain too low or charge too high. Average time the battery lasts on one charge is pending research. Charging indicators will appear while charging, and a notification will display if there is an issue with charging. It should take no more than two hours to charge the device.
  • Antenna - Could detect certain types of waves on the original Digivices, but doesn't have any functionality on this model.
  • Prongs - Used for battling with another Digivice Color, Digital Monster Color or Digimon Pendulum Color.
  • LEDs - Four lights will produce different colors depending on what is happening on the device. Can be disabled via settings.
  • Clip - Hook it right on your belt. I guarantee your screen will get scratches while walking around with it, embrace the chaos.

Buttons

Before you turn on your device, it’s important to know what the buttons on your device are.

  • A - Confirm: The top right button. Confirms the currently selected option when in menus. Brings up the main menu when on the home screen. Holding it on the home screen will stop or play the background music.
  • B - Cancel: The bottom right button. Takes you back to the previous screen. Displays the remaining steps for the current area when on the home screen. If pressed again while viewing remaining steps, it will display the total number of steps. Holding it on the home screen will play a voice clip. Turns on the device when held for 5 seconds.
  • Up / Down: The button on the left side is actually two buttons. Allows you to navigate up and down between selections. Pressing up on the home screen will display the clock, while pressing down will display the camp unless your Digimon is injured.

What’s that really small button?

That’s the reset button! Normally speaking, you should use the power menu option if you want to restart the device, but in case that isn't working you can press this button to soft-reset, which brings you back to the splash screen and asks you to set the clock again.

Saving

Your progress will be saved automatically and frequently, so you don't need to worry about continuing your Adventure when the battery dies or after turning off the device. Once you are ready to continue, just power on the device and set the time to continue.

Menus

The main menu can be accessed from the Home Screen by pressing the A button. The following sub-menus are avaialble.

Digimon

Here you can see details about the partner and friend Digimon you currently have unlocked.

  • Partner: Change - Allows you to choose another Digimon as your current partner. Whichever Digimon is selected will be the one that does the walking, events and battles for whichever area you are in. You cannot change your current partner while injured or when you have a travel companion. You will start with just one partner, but will meet more as you play. Details about unlocking each partner can be found on the Partner Guide.
  • Partner: Digivolution - Here you can see which evolutions each partner currently has access to. If you hold the A button while looking at a Digimon, you will see a close-up of that Digimon, though some Digimon do not have close-ups.
  • Partner: Bond - Shows the current amount of memory your Digimon has. When memory is full, your Digimon gains access to a new evolution. Digimon need 5 memory to be able to evolve, and memory is gained from winning battles. 1, 2 or 4 wins are required to increase 1 memory for unlocking Stages IV, V and VI respectively. Tailmon is an exception, requiring 4 wins for each memory to unlock its Stage V evolution. The two secret Digimon do not evolve and therefore do not increase memory.
  • Friend - A listing of the friend Digimon that you have unlocked. Friends are unlocked by defeating that Digimon in its battle area for the first time. You can select one friend to be a support in battle by pressing the A button while that friend is selected. The current support friend will be shown with a Star next to their image, and will have a 50% chance of appearing in battle to deal 1 additional damage (see the Battles section for more details).

Map

The Digivice Color follows the story of the original Digimon Adventure as well as its follow-up movie: Our War Game. Each of the regions that are visited throughtout that story are represented on the Digivice Color with their own map, such as File Island and Server Continent, with various locations that can be visited on each. You will only have access to one map at first, but will be able to visit more as you progress through areas. You can revisit any map you have access to, and can select any avaialble location to explore. Within each location, there are multiple areas that will either have an event or a battle. Any that you haven't enetered yet will say NEW, while ones you have cleared will have a green checkmark. Secret areas have a chance to be revealed every time you clear another area within that location.

Recover

If you lose a battle, your Digimon will be injured. While injured, you cannot camp, encounter a Digital Crisis, switch partner Digimon or use the map menu. Selecting this menu option will heal your Digimon and allow you to proceed as normal. If your Digimon is not injured, this option won't do anything.

Playmode

This menu allows you to view any evolution sequence that you've seen, play songs and voice clips, or view the ending scene if you've already seen it during normal gameplay.

Setting

The following are the various settings that can be adjusted.

  • Sound Volume - Change how loud the device is. If set to 0, the device will be muted. Event and Battle alerts still occur if the device is muted, but they will be silent.
  • Display Brightness - Change how bright the screen is.
  • LED - Turn the four LEDs on the device on or off. Event and Battle alerts still occur if the LED is off, but they won't light up.
  • Vibration - Turn vibration on or off. Event and Battle alerts still occur if the vibration is off, but no vibration will occur.
  • Clock Setting - Change the current time. Use Up and Down to change the value, A to confirm each value and B to go back.
  • Step Speed - Allows each shake of the device to count as 5 steps when turned on. Useful if you are just shaking the device by hand.
  • Clear All - Completely factory resets the device and returns you to the splash screen. All data will be lost if you do this, so only do so if you want to replay the game from beginning.
  • Power Off - Saves data and turns the device off. Hold B for 5 seconds to turn the device back on, at which point you will be asked to set the clock again.

Gameplay

Getting Started

It’s time to begin your adventure! Once you've turned on the device by holding the B button, you’ll get a splash screen of the Bandai logo and be asked to set the time. Use Up and Down to change the value, A to confirm each value and B to go back. Once you have set the time, you will then be given a choice between the 7 Chosen Children and their Digimon partners. Regardless of which you choose, you'll be able to unlock all of them as you play, so you can just pick your favorite to start. Once you have selected, your journey will start.

Map Progression

Unlike virtual pets, the Digivice Color is not about raising Digimon. Instead you will visit locations from the Digimon Adventure TV series and encounter various events and battles. Each location has multiple areas with a set number of steps, which are counted via the accelerometer within the device. There is a pendulum clacker within the device as well, but it doesn't actually do anything, it's just for effect. You're encouraged to clip the device to your belt and actually walk to get your steps, but of course no one will know if you just sit at your desk and shake the thing. Steps will be counted as long as you are ton the home screen or while the device is sleeping, they will not be counted while in menus. Once you have reduced the number of needed steps for a area down to 0, the event or battle will occur. After clearing that area, you will automatically proceed to the next area. If you clear the boss area in a location, you will move on to the next location. Locations can be revisted at any time, and may have secret areas that unlock after winning battles. The Map, Location and Area you are currently in will be shown in red.

Events

Certain areas have events that occur once the steps have been reduced to 0. There is nothing specific to during an event, just a short interaction to watch. If the event is with a partner Digimon, and you reach it with a travel companion, you will encounter a battle instead. After a non-battle event, the following may occur:

  • You will unlock the Digimon as a friend if you haven't already done so.
  • You have a 50% chance of getting an item. Most items will be used at camp, but the Public Phone and Digimon Analyzer are special items that will have immediate effects. The Public Phone will allow a random Chosen Child to be your travel companion until after your next battle, while the Digimon Analyzer will reduce the step count of the next area you select to 0.
  • There is a random chance that you will unveil the secret area that can be found in your current location.
  • In a specific area, you will unlock a new partner Digimon.

Battles

Once you have depleted the steps in a Battle area, or when a Digital Crisis occurs, you will encounter an enemy that you must defeat. You will be alerted via sound, lights and vibration, and you can either press A to enter the battle or B to put the device back to sleep if now isn't a good time. Once initiated, you will be shown the rules for this specific battle which determine how the mini-game will work. You do not need follow these directions right away, they will be used during attack clashes. There are three different types of rules:

  • Mash - Press the A button repeatedly as many times as you can
  • Shake - Shake the device as many times as you can
  • Follow - Press each button indicated by the arrow that appears on the screen

Once you know the rules, press A to proceed. You will be asked to select the evolution for your current partner Digimon. If you may see a warning sign if the form currently selected would be unable to win the battle without evolving further. Once you select, both participating Digimon will appear on screen along with their 5 HP. The goal is to reduce the enemy down to 0 HP, and both Digimon will attack at the same time. Their attacks will clash in the middle of the battle field, at which point you need to do the action presented by the previous rules: Mash, Shake or Follow. You have two seconds to do the applicable action as many times as possible, at which point one of the attacks will break through and hit the opposite Digimon. Stronger enemies will require better performance during the attack clash. By default, attacks deal two damage per hit, but your Digimon will deal more damage if it is a higher evolution stage.

During battle you can be supported by other partner Digimon or friend Digimon. The conditions for each are as follows, but note that certain battles may prevent support of any kind.

  • Partner Support - 20% chance of happening, deals 2-3 additional damage. Any other Chosen Child that you currently have access to can provide support.
  • Friend Support - 50% chance of happening, deals 1 additional damage. Only the currently selected friend can provide support.
  • Travel Companion Support - 100% chance of happening when you have a travel companion in the current area, deals 2-3 additional damage. You gain one of the Chosen Children as a travel companion by having received the Public Phone item at the end of a area The Chosen Child that travels with you will be random, and they will stop following you after your next battle.

Upon winning a battle, the following may occur.

  • You will unlock the enemy Digimon as a friend if you haven't already done so.
  • You have a 50% chance of getting an item. Most items will be used at camp, but the Public Phone and Digimon Analyzer are special items that will have immediate effects. The Public Phone will allow a random Chosen Child to be your travel companion until after your next battle, while the Digimon Analyzer will reduce the step count of the next area you select to 0.
  • There is a random chance that you will unveil the secret area that can be found in your current location.
  • In specific areas, you will get a brief cutscene followed by the reveal of a new map to select.
  • If you have won enough battles with your current partner, a new evolution will be unlocked.

If you lose the battle, your Digimon will be injured and you will need to heal it using the Recover option. After recovering you can re-enter the area, and will need to travel half the original number of steps to reach the enemy again.

Camping

When you press the Down button on the home screen, your Digimon will start a camp. By pressing the down button again, you will cycle between your Digimon sleeping, playing or eating with another Digimon. The Digimon that appears with the one you are currently traveling with will change each time you enter camp. The items that appear on each scene will be ones that you have collected from clearing areas, and you can change the specific item on each scene by pressing A. Pressing the Up button while camping will display a close-up image of your Digimon. Digimon cannot camp while injured.

Items

You may receive items when clearing areas, which include the following:

  • Picnic Item - 31 available, plus two extra on the Taichi and Yamato color devices. Mostly food items to set on the table. The Digivice item will match the color of the one in your hand. These are purely cosmetic and do not affect anything.
  • Rolling Item - 2 available. A soccer ball or wheel for your Digimon to kick around. These are purely cosmetic and do not affect anything.
  • Sleeping Item - 10 available. Something for your Digimon to sleep on or next to. These are purely cosmetic and do not affect anything.
  • Public Phone - A green pay-phone. When received, a random Chosen Child will be made your travel companion until after your next battle. When you have a travel companion, you will have a 100% chance of receiving support from them in battle. If you reach the end of a non-friend Event area with a travel companion, you will enter a battle instead of having the usual partner interaction.
  • Digimon Analyzer - A yellow laptop, as used by Koushiro in the show. When received, this will reduce the step count of the next area you select to 0, allowing you to enter the battle or event immediately.

Digital Crisis (Random Encounters)

At predetermined times throughout the day while the Digivice is either on the home screen or sleeping, you may encounter a Digital Crisis. When this occurs, a red CAUTION screen will appear while music plays. You will see a shaking indicator on the screen, and if you shake quickly enough a battle will occur. You need to shake 80 times to initiate the battle. The battle will then proceed like any other. If now isn't a good time, just press B to stop the alert. Digital Crisis will occur at the following times in order. For example, if you just had one occur at 5:45 PM, the next one will occur at 2:30 PM the following day. You can also change the time to one minute before the next event if you want it to happen as soon as possible.

Sleep Mode

If you do not interact with your device for 2 minutes and 10 seconds, the screen will turn off to save power. Pressing any button will turn the screen back on. While the screen is off, steps will still be counted and you will still be alerted when you have reached an event or battle.
